Land of Fagaras Day Tour - History, Traditions and Ethnography.

In this escourted day tour we travel to Land of Fagaras, a land full of romanian history and tradition, which lies around Fagaras Town and Fagaras Mountains whose peaks are forming at south a natural barrier that separates Transylvania from Valahia (Tara Romaneasca), and wich is located along the middle course of the Olt River.


We leave Brasov behind and cross Saxon settlements Codlea and Ghimbav. We travel along Persani Mountains where we discover breathtaking landscapes.

Once we go trough Persani Pass we get into Land of Fagaras, Charming natural beauty are opened in front of your eyes from the valleys between the slopes to the colourful and wide plains .

We make the first stop at Sinca Veche, a compact Romanian village where we visit the rupestral monastery – a place rich in mystery and strange phenomenons. This place of worship was carved in stone and has been called Temple of Fate ( Templul Ursitelor), Monastery or Temple carved in stone from Sinca Veche. Better known as the Temple of Sinca Veche, this place is believed to be more than 7000 years old with even earlier Dacian origin , it’s supposed to have belonged to the same civilization that has founded the White Temple at the Snake Island. Another argument in favor of its age is that it has two altars, which makes many people claim it not has a Christian origine and the historians to say that it could be unique in the world. Charged with positive energy we start going to Ohaba village, a place untouched by civilization, a place where time seems to stop and where people live according to ancient rules and in harmony with nature.

Charged with positive energy we start going to Ohaba village, a place untouched by civilization, a place where time seems to stop and where people live according to ancient rules and in harmony with nature.In Ohaba we stop at"€ Moara cu Noroc"€ guest house , a place detached from a fairy tales, where we visit a mill that uses the power of water, the only one that stayed in operation in those places where locals are still proccesing their grains by traditional methods. Here we can enjoy a quiet tea or coffee with delicious apple pie made with organic igrediente, the house specialty. Hardly we leave this beautiful place to travel to Lisa village, passing through some Romanian villages, enjoying and let us being seduced by the grandeur of Fagaras Mountains.Here local people are still keeping alive the customs and ancestral traditions. Named in northern Romania rugs, clothes in this area, these are some shaggy, heavy quilts, being woven from Turcan wool and warn by all women in all villages of Fagaras surroundings .

In Lisa village we stop at Greavu Viorel family household, located in a beautiful mountain area, where we visit a facility that processes these thick wool fabric,using hydraulic power and wich is the family business for over 100 years, being transmitted from father to son and which reached its fifth generation. We see how wool fabrics are washed(valtoreste), how it thickens and combs. From here we travel to a special place for the people from Fagaras , a place full of history and spirituality.

Brancoveanu Monastery is located in Sambata de Sus Village , at the foot of Fagaras Mountains in a beautiful mountain scenery. Entering the courtyard through an alley bordered by flowers, the monastery is shown us in all its splendor. Founded in 1696 by Constantin Brancoveanu, ruler of Tara Romaneasca(1688-1714), the settlement was along its existence a center of spirituality and culture for the Romanian population of Land of Fagaras. Frescoes, prints and icons that were offered by the founder contributed to the spread of Brancovenesc style. Going down on Sambata Valley ,we arrive in Sambata de Jos, where we visit the famous Lipizzan horses farm, a place with vast pastures, fresh mountain air and clear spring water, which is the oldest and largest farm of its kind in Europe, hosting more than 350 horses.

 Lipizzan breed is the first modern race in Europe with over 400 years of existence and was created using the best breeders Eastern Iberian wafers. This breed has a versatility rarely seen in a pure race amid other physical abilities (strength, speed, endurance) and mental (ambition, intelligence, temperament), resulting in a great sophisticated and elegant horse.From here we travel to Fagaras Town wich has long been politico-administrative center of these lands.The main attraction can not be missed. Fagaras Fortress is dominating all the splendid buildings in the city, being situated in the town center. It is surrounded by a moat, the only fortress of its kind in Romania yet still retain complete. In the early seventeenth century, the city became the princely residence of Michael the Brave, which gives in 1600 the Fortress and the field of Fagaras to his wife, Mrs. Stanca.

Principles Gabriel Bethlen of Transylvania (1613-1629) and George Rakoczi (1630-1648) have decorated after 17th-century Renaissance style. From 1948 until 1960 the castle was used as a prison. In one its towers of the castle was "The Iron Lady", a medieval torture device. The castle is hosting now Fagaras Country Museum dedicated to local history and municipal library. Today is a relaxed atmosphere, inside the castle being able to hold civil marriage ceremonies.
We return to Brasov and drop-off at you locations.
