Visit the Land of Fagaras  and Transfagarasan on this 1 night stay. Fagaras Fortress


This morning we meet our fellow travellers at their locations before setting out to discover the many identities of the Land of Fagaras. After seeing the old center of Brasov , we leave the city and head for the Transfagarasan Road. We pass through the enchanting saxon towns of Ghimbav and Codlea and follow the scenic Fagaras Mountains to Fagaras town. We stop in Fagaras Town to visit the lovely Fagaras Fortress, wich is the main  attraction of the town. Fagaras Fortress is dominating all the splendid buildings in the city, being situated in the town center and is surrounded by a moat, the only fortress of its kind in Romania yet still retain complete.

Sambata de Sus Monastery

We hit the road and  travel to a special place for the people from Fagaras , a place full of history and spirituality. Brancoveanu Monastery is located in Sambata de Sus Village , at the foot of Fagaras Mountains in a beautiful mountain scenery. Entering the courtyard through an alley bordered by flowers, the monastery is shown us in all its splendor. Founded in 1696 by Constantin Brancoveanu, ruler of Tara Romaneasca(1688-1714), the settlement was along its existence a center of spirituality and culture for the Romanian population of Land of Fagaras. Frescoes, prints and icons that were offered by the founder contributed to the spread of Brancovenesc style.

Transfagarasan Road

We continue our journey through the Fagaras Country and follow the road which links two hystorical regions of Romania : Transylvania and Muntenia. From Cartisoara Village we follow Transfagarasan along Balea Valley and trough the sinuous road wich gives you asthonishing views we reach Balea Waterfall (1234). After a short stop where you can admire the noisy falling waters we continue our trip on the road that climbs trough Balea, Doamna and Tunsu edges and get to Balea Glacial Lake. This road will give everything to those addicted to adrenaline.

Balea Lake

Because of the countless turns, the average speed is maximum 40 km per hour. Along this route there are 27 viaducts and bridges, and the longest road tunnel in Romania - 887 meters. The landscape is fantastic, and the differences of altitude and the curves represent a challenge for both cars and drivers, so don't forget your camera to capture the spectacular views! We stop at Balea Lake to enjoy this splendid monument of nature wich is situaded at 2034 meters altitude and together with about 180 hectare of land around it is declared natural reservation since 1932. Also, the first ice hotel in Eastern Europe is built near the lake every winter since in 2006. We go trough the tunnel to see Capra Waterfall which welcomes its visitors with cold water draps. Ample time is allocated to admire  and take part in some of  numerous activities. Overnight at Balea Chalet, breakfast included.

Fagaras Fortress

Day 2: Balea Lake- Lippizan Horse Farm- Brasov. After breakfast and a short walk, we continue our adventure in order to visit the Lipizzan Horse Farm. Going down on Sambata Valley ,we arrive in Sambata de Jos, where we visit the famous Lipizzan horses farm, a place with vast pastures, fresh mountain air and clear spring water, which is the oldest and largest farm of its kind in Europe, hosting more than 350 horses. Lipizzan breed is the first modern race in Europe with over 400 years of existence and was created using the best breeders Eastern Iberian wafers. This breed has a versatility rarely seen in a pure race amid other physical abilities (strength, speed, endurance) and mental (ambition, intelligence, temperament), resulting in a great sophisticated and elegant horse. We will finish our trip heading towards to Brasov and drop-off at you locations.
